ARMA 2
- Cratesistance (Adv)
- Vanguard (Coop)

ARMA 3
- Compound (Adv)
- MorningSortie (Coop)

48 comrades enjoyed riddling bodies with 7.65mm bullet holes today in the FA classic Chernarussian adversarial cratesistance, as well as on the dry planes of northern Zargabad. But at the end it weren't bullets but mortar rounds that gave us hell, as well as Commanders resorting to cowardice in the face of danger. SHAME ON YOU TIGERSHARK. SHAME.

ARMA 3 troubled us with it's teething problems yet again, but we managed to get a solid adversarial going with Compound and after some ninja-fixes ran our first mission utilizing the Headless Client: Morning Sortie. Not that we lasted long...

Cratesistance
Alpha 1 Team Leader (Attackfor, whoever that was)

Classics rarely disappoint, and this one was no exception. We made an almost textbook assault on our first objective under the direction of comrade Tiger 'Coward' Shark. Then, there were reports of contacts about everywhere, Wolfenswan got half-eaten by a rock while under lost bullets fire, and the entirety of our platoon was, as per usual, schwaked. No, that isn't even a word. But still.
Wolf, Zitron and myself foud ourselves being the last survivors, with contacts from about every direction. I was astutely hiding in plain sight in the middle of an open field, which allowed me to get two of the bad men, then one shot me, and shot me again, and again, til I died. I left poor Zitron all confused, with a partial contact report and a dramatic "Well fuck me, I'm about to die".

Vanguard
IFV 2 Commander/Gunner (yeah, right, IFV. Come. On.)

Well, I was not there at the beginning of the slotting and paid he price with the worst slot ever. For some strange reason I did not die immediately, but was instead condemned to err around, confused, at half the speed Fer expected of me. In the end, after some intense M113 CQB, a mortar round fell right in front of my not-so-trusty tin can, and all indicators turned right. I did what I thought, at the time, to be the clever thing: screamed "Bail out, bail out!" and... bailed out. Turns out the M113 was never to explode, but I caught the next shell with my forehead.
Well. At least I died gloriously for the party. *cough*

Various Arma 3 stills and slideshows.

I should have maxed out the graphics settings. When you get one frame every 4 seconds, you'd expect it to be a least pretty.

Compound
Bravo 2 AR. Under Carson.

That mission was awesome. Loved it. Very tense adversarial, that went to show that a good Urban Combat mission doesn't need a Kavala-sized town. Had much fun bounding with the other fireteam in that main street. At some point, I announced that I was going to watch West, then I realize that nobody's watching our back. Like, nobody. So I turn around, and find myself facing a whole fireteam of dudes, 25 meters away. I was about to blast them all to hell, when I felt a slight discomfort at the sight of their helmets, and decided I'd wait a few seconds. Well, actually, a few seconds after that, B1 and the APC were shooting the heck out of friendlies. We laughed hard at Danny's rage.
Then we performed a textbook assault on the enmy compound, with a masterplan from Fer, involving convoluted driving schemes and a cunning smoke-screened D-day like landing.
Turns out there was no smoke, but still. It was awesome. I even got to kill the last enemy with my second bullet of the game, the first having been used to kill a dead corpse a few minutes before.

Morning Sortie (animated version)
Wolf's fireteam AAR.

It turned out to be a very nice mission, but when Comrade Headless Client directs his troops, they get good at killing people. Somehow, everyone was dead but for our fireteam and Kale. I tried a duel with a technical and lost.

Thanks to the hosts for the session, as usual, and to all the dudes that endured the torments of A3 testing.

Cratesistance - Bluefor Alpha 3 AAR - SuperU FTL, Vorrin AR, Gaius AT

Off we went to kill people and blow things up, Super was executed by an AI on the way and I killed the AI. Gaius was wounded and I threw smoke further up the treeline to attract fire. Once Gaius was up I gave our status to ASL and with Bodge FT A2 coming under fire I moved what remained of A3 in to flank, I killed three more EI and requested some medical attention before we moved any further. We took a little sporadic fire to the north, I called the contact to my team and then the squad. I fired some GP up into the trees and got into cover behind a tree. Gaius was wounded again and I decided to fling a couple of hand grenades towards the enemy, the first went where I wanted it to go. The second decided to lodge itself inside the tree I was taking cover by. This killed Vorrin who was tending to Gaius and gave a fright to Alpha medic Tryyteyker. Feeling bad for my friendly fire I started to patch up Gaius again and was rushed by the enemy mid treatment.

Vanguard - Artillery Spotting Assistant - SuperU Spotting Guy

This mission needs some alteration from the standpoint of the Arty support. Both Super and myself had mortar tubes, from my rushed half hour at Arty school I do recall a base plate being required to shoot the boom sticks. I am sure Super will echo the next point, some optical spotting equipment of some kind would also be welcome, to allow the accurate direction and range finding in spotting of things to blow up. Lastly the artillery guns need to be placed further away so they can fire on close targets. All of the arty action was mortars this mission.

So without a base plate myself and Super went to see what Abdul, Abdul, Abdul and Abdul were doing not to forget Hasib and Jajil. We decided that since the other vehicles around the base were locked the chances were the emplaced arty and mortars would be too. We got a lift with one of the M113s and disembarked joining Tiger. We soon discovered that direct wasn't working so us shouting abuse at people to pass the time didn't last long. Tiger passed the precious optical sight gear to Super and the first of many fire missions was underway. I sat back and did very little, spotting incoming fire on one of the teams I dashed down to find out if the dead Comrade had anything worth looting, sadly he was just an AAR. Deciding that looting was the best policy I attempted to corral a BRT-40 for our use, sadly it made off and had its wheels shot out. We eventually found a DShKm and ditched the useless tubes and became HMG with on call mortar support. We somehow managed to duplicate the gun and tripod several times, replacing the ammo at one point. We engaged rooftop targets whilst under mortar fire and were shot at by friendly forces when we crewed the gun. Eventually we pushed into the far flank and Super had to step away for a moment. I took a seat and enjoyed the sound of incoming mortar fire landing a safe distance away. Super returned and we set up the gun, opened up on the hill bunkers and were told to pull back.. I was getting into a seductive pose when the infantry opened fire on Tiger..

Compound - Bravo 1 FTL - Head AR - Vorkin AAR - Guss AT

We moved well up until we ran into Alpha, some more familiarisation with factions may well be a good idea. Someone in B1, not I and not under my orders opened up on Alpha. I had the GPS open but couldn't see thanks to the terrible GPS and masses of markers. After that we eventually loaded into the IFV excluding Head who may or may not have been an Alpha killer, we were driven down to the enemy compound. I got out went to the right went inside the door and was killed by a friendly.

MorningSortie - MMG Assistant - Kale Gunner

Supers orders were to load up in one truck, I asked if MMG could load in the lead Strider, this request was granted and we drove out. Please remember not to drink and drive, and to keep any vehicles stationary when passengers and entering or exiting the vehicle. Once we were on the hill Kale jumped out and I drove further up to get eyes north. Once in place I jumped back onto the gun and found I couldn't really see anything. The fog wasn't the issue it was the fog mixing with the fake lined optics view, I was able to spot an enemy technical only by its tracers. I shot back and it blew up, moments later another one rocked up and blew me up.

Cratesistance: Blufor B1 FTL. Progressing along a row of tiny stone walls, we soon took heavy fire from the NE and SE. We had to retreat under cover of smoke at one point (SuperU's pic of Homerclease carrying me away), before getting back in there.....and dying. Fer, was my mic ok, or was I having one of those days where I can't annunciate?

Vanguard: B2 FTL. Bravo did some jogging along the Southern road, fucked some shit up, and had a merry time all round. We made our way into the Southern area of the compound where Gaius managed to die first in B3 (he always dies first), and then the mortars came raining down injuring Dabbo. I refused to leave him behind, a few more exploded around us, and as we were retreating one hit where we were standing moments earlier. I died a little while later to BTR fire through many layers of bushes. :(

Compound: Indfor A1 Rifleman. My briefing loaded up Stratis, with no other mission info. When the game loaded we were in a truck, floating in a murky void. I should have tried to dismount, for science. Loading back in, and we're away....until Draakon drives into a rock. So we walk into town, and alpha gets a dose of friendly fire. Approaching the objective on both sides of the road, tracers suddenly start raining down from the roof of a building. It's so noisy that I have to take cover and fiddle with the game volume. We secured the area to the South of the objective, and waited for a push:

I managed to get BlackIce in that building because he didn't reposition after engaging. I found myself pretty lonely, with our covering element, A2, behind and bogged down with EI around them. I moved into the Southern side of the compound, parked myself in a bush, and tried to spot the enemy until the end.

MorningSortie: I didn't get to play it. On the attempt where the mission ended instantly (all players dead on spawn), the briefing screen thought that I was SuperU (team tab, and top right corner of screen). I also had Stratis load for the Altis mission again. Then I could only connect to the briefing screen after the game had been kicked. I restarted Arma 3 and couldn't get past the mission loading screen. FPS would drop while loading, and then hang when completed with 450 frames per second.

First of all....Coward Shark....really? I was ordered to retreat by the host for record....but surely the summary execution at the end made up for the need to call me coward in this thread :commissar:

I don't usually have the time to write AARs but being as I was in command for 2 missions I am making the time.

Cratesistance
ASL Lead

Alpha was tasked with attacking the southern most cache. After forming up at the dismount marker I quickly dispatched the team in a various positions around the cache with intention of performing a coordinated attack. A1 was to get eyes on the cache from the west and move to suppress the cache as A2 moved in from the south and A3 moved in behind the cache from east.

A2 got into contact as soon as they hit their marker and downed to AI before I ordered for them to pull back and join A3. A3 then pushed off to move into their cache attack position but quickly became engaged. With A3 in contact I seized the opportunity of distracted enemy to launch the attack. A1 proceeded to what turned out to be an cache unguarded and A2 set the charge and blew it up. A2 then was ordered to support A3 as A1 moved north to support Bravo as per orders from Dogface. A2 and A3 cleaned up their contact but then became further engaged as they moved north also. I may have died from a nade from our team which according to reports "bounced off a tree".

I then spent the time watching Bodge comically run along side enemy without realising it was OPFOR and watched Mamba's last stand using grass as cover. The cherry on the cake was watching Zitron soil is underwear amongst some rocks and then run past opfor as searched for leaves to wipe and remaining residue from his trousers. Needless to say, clean trousers were the least of his problems and the lead enema made his trousers even worse.

Vanguard
CO

The plan here was to load up Alpha as the tip of the spear and get Bravo to clear the southern part of Nango and hold it (which has been a problem in the past as troops attacked us from the south when we are in the factory).

With Alpha attacking from the north they couls use the compounds as cover as they advanced through Nango to the factory complex. With SuperU and Moon Moon as the artillery element we cleared some threats for Alpha before they moved across open ground. They did a good job of moving to Nango and clearing as soon as they arrived for only a single casualty. I would have liked they moved together more as one IFV arrived well before the other. Something to work on.

Bravo suffered from a tank bug early on...an unfortunate turn of events which diminished their planned effectiveness. They still did pretty good getting to their objective and even began clearing out the souther part of the factory.

It was about then the mortars came and we witnessed from Alphas perspective a round that fell in the factory and series of [UGH] messages on the screen from Bravo elements. At first I thought Fer had gotten out his portable DVD player and had shared his latest acquisitions of donkey porn but it turned it out it was just the well placed mortar round. When the first barrage had died down I ordered Alpha to clear out the northern half of the factory.

With the factory cleared I ordered alpha west and for bravo to take their objective. The arty team and myself went ahead of alpha to scout resistance and we artied a few target in the village for preparation of alpha assault. As alpha set up we got a call from bravo they need arty support. We got a broad reference and sent a few round their way to help clear out enemy.

Alpha assualted the bunker and did really well. I climbed onto a compound roof just a new barrage came in and saw a round land right next to an IFV. Thankfully it survived but a another round landed just behind it near my rooftop and wounded me. At this point I was instructed that 2 objective were enough and ordered Bravo to join us for a "joint tactical movement in the opposite direction of the enemy for the purpose of reattack at another time of our choosing". Under mortar fire we pulled back to a secure location where I proceeded to organise everyone for a survivors photo. This act of victory and celebration was rewarded by summary execution which seemed bad at the time but did save me from having to see Fer's portable DVD player again.

Somewhere between Alpha's move to the staging point for the bunker attack I shot trytecker. In my defence, he did stand up in a field and FIRE ON FRIENDLY TROOPS. He was engaging the MG teams and I instinctively dropped him (why he was engaging us is anyone's guess). I had a feeling of dread after I had done it so I went to check his body, found a picture of his girlfriend in his pocket (will put that to good use...don't worry try) and also found a half eaten Powerbar...so felt a little better that at least in death he was more useful than in life.

Sorry Try...but there is a lesson here. Don't fire on friendlies and if don't want the squad masturbating vigorously over your girlfriend (or your girlfriend with goats pasted next to her in daf's case) then don't carry her around in your pocket.

I missed the A3 sesssion after the Powerpoint presentation shown during the first 2 mission attempts. I had a picture of Try's girlfriend to attend to.

BLUFOR B1 AT
Conveniently loading pre-loaded in trucks Blufor had a few minutes to sample the premier Chernarussian air before trundling off to implement the in-mission conceived master plan of our glorious and lightning quick leaders. The plan definately mentioned Bravo one moving directly to the target cache across an open stretch of field but we were assured there would be ample cover from walls. Croc, our FTL, shamed us by suggesting that perhaps there might be better cover by crossing further north under the cover of trees. This cowardly and dishonest proposal was immediately dismissed by our glorious leader by virtue of his unshakable battle prowess.
Alpha turned off to our west while we continued north to our objective. Upon dismounting we steeled ourselves, not against our fear of the enemy but that we might not destroy them before alpha did theirs and thus have to share targets. An open field, a treeline, and a road leading almost directly to our target. And most certainly, NO feelings of unease at what we had to cross.
Swift feet brought us to the first set of walls, then the second, then... wait. Where are the walls? They expect us to run out there? I'm already on my stomach, scrabbling for cover behind this pathetic excuse of brickwork. Sweet Jebus, here we go, AGGH bullets! GPs! From where? Northeast? The cache? No, southeast as well! Why haven't B2 cleared that?? There are only bushes! Wait! Beautiful majestic Walls! I'm there! Comeon everyone!
But everyone was down. AR dead and FTL Croc and Bobberro crawling. Alright, so my faith in the infallibility of our leaders has been shattered but by gumbo there's one thing I can always rely on. And that's my fantastic moooostache. Smoke out (um, wait, the first one was a grenade that may or may not have killed Bobberro, buuuut I was only going to grab Croc anyway), Croc grabbed, manly heroic charge in progress (see SuperU's first screenshot and feel the awe!). And since real men can also cower behind bushes while administering first aid, within moments Croc was back up.
And since real men can't run away from a fight within moments we were back charging across that same patch of open ground with much the same result. I lost my legs and my squad and so I slithered around for a bit before blindly emptying my mag, being unable to reload it cause, um, my broken legs were in the way, I guess, and being unable to throw my last grenade for the same reason. I died crawling for Crocs AK74 GP.

Vanguard
Bravo 1 AR

Aforementioned tank troubles aside this went pretty smoothly for the first 20 minutes as the group moved up the route and cleared some light armour and technicals with a smattering of infantry. Feszen (?) our AT blew a perfect hole in the south wall of the factory compound and B1 lead the charge over. WE MADE IT! To the walls, and then I was immediately shot (1) but was tended to and soldiered on, moooostache, manly, etc. Moved carefully through the compound and had the pleasure of catching a few filthy rebels at point blank range as they emerged from a building, alleyway? Never got to find out because I spent the next minute looking curiously at the "Incoming!" warning and then the seconds after that trying to burrow into the ground. It must have had some effect because an arty shell knocked out everyone around me but I survived! MOOOSTACHE! With a few scratches (2), but I was soon back up thanks to the medic who dragged me to safety. Dragged mind, not carried since he didn't have a moooostache. But manly enough regardless.
We counted the factory as cleared and headed back to our previous position before pushing further east. More infantry and suddenly our FTL was down! Oh (insert name here) I'll never forget you! I realised I was now FTL but put my nerves aside, and knuckling my mooostache, manned up. I didn't get Pickers and Feszen killed immediately which was fantastic but we did get hit again (3) twice (4) and then, surrounded, we lost Feszen. Dogface ordered us all to cover in a nearby compound and we consolidated the remaining squads. Quietly inspired by my mooostache we resolved to go on and began clearing compounds but Tigershark, lacking facial hair?, sounded the retreat. We began to run, and thus was I punished. Long range fire from the final objective again put me on my belly (5), but Bravo just couldn't stand to leave my moooostache behind and Dogface himself saved me.
We successfully joined up with Alpha and moved to extract where a mass weapons misfire gave me my final licks. 6 in all! And I survived! With perfect aim and everything! Pity bout Tigershark though.

Compound
B3 (?) AT

Silently but with deadly intent we were lead into the town by Kalelovil. Sporadic gunfire from uncertain locations and reports of friendly fire, but no definate sightings. Moving as a unit, Bravo proceeded down a main road with B3 on the left. Or at least that was the order that was given. Gunfire from two rooftops at the end of the street, at least 3 shooters. I returned fire from foliage but my muzzle flash must have been picked out and it suddenly got very uncomfortable. Looking around for help I had the pants wetting realisation that everyone else was on the other side of the street with lovely concrete and brick to hide behind. So I paniced a bit. Yeah I can admit it. I ran across the road. But forgot somewhat about A3's slightly less than rapier fast sprint. And I died. Right there. I was heartened to see someone actually check my body though.

I'm pretty sure my A3 profile doesn't have any facial hair.

I was around only for Compound, and also first time playing organised arma3.
Sweet, new toys to play with. Slightly lightly armed vehicle (MG only), but comes with thermals for gunner and commander which I found rather useful.

IFV was first assigned as an attachment under the control of the CO, but later we were assigned under the command of Bravo SL Fer. Our objective was to cover Bravo's approach, and not get blown up in the process.
Image
Bravo advancing.

Friendly fire incident report.
I was casually scanning the buildings with my thermals, when I heard on comms that B1 had close contact. Then I saw a guy 50 meters away from me ahead, strolling over the road. I opened up with a volley of MG on him, but thankfully I am a bad shot and I completely missed him. (This is due to the fact that the MG is off center compared to the optics so I needed to compensate with sideways aiming).
Image
My mistake was that I really needed to check the bearings, if we look at the pic above it shows 224, which was the direction of friendlies in that mission - the enemy would have been north.

Image
Friendly identified, sorry AkKind if I was a better shot you would probably be dead.

The reason I probably got mixed up with directions is because we approached a T-junction and I lost track as to where the enemy direction was.

End of incident report, the Party is Just.

After that we continued on and I shot up a few dudes on the roofs. The enemy was holed up in the last few buildings, so SL Fer ordered a charge in the IFV towards the buildings. Resistance was light, and Bravo quickly stormed the buildings while IFV provided cover with it's limited vision. We were supposed to deploy a smoke screen as we arrived at the buildings, but for some reason the IFV didn't have any smoke launchers.

Image
Assault on compound.

Looked like there was still some enemies left in the area, but hiding. The prime suspect was a building to the SE marked "Building", IFV tried to get eyes on them but we saw noone and then the mission ended.

The plan: defend the 3 central objectives and abandon the 2 on each side, with ASL and CO acting as an observation element, and the half strength bravo unit as a reserve on the top of the hill. ASL placed itself in a nice tree group with excellent visibility of the field all around. AI and ASL informed me that a significant portion of EI had ignored glorious cherno woods for the start nakedness of the open field where Ferrard introduced them to the joy of GP. Sadly his infinite murderous rampage of death and destruction (IMRDD) was cut short when he was assaulted from the rear. Thankfully the remaining forces were too weak to achieve much of anything and the continued to be the victim of a turkey shoot from their exposed position. Of note however was another element that tried a wooded approach A3 got sent to engage them and only one man covered in blood came out, muttering about fowls and the eyes.

Vanguard
A2 FTL

Mission started ok, with my unit seeing lots of nothing while the rest of the squad discussed a invisible (to us) bmp. then when the IFV came back to pick up my unit, buggy response for getting on it caused me to accidentally join ASL and abandon my unit. having droped off at the other end I managed to rejoin and retake my rightful position. We then proceeded to do a rather effective building by building clearing (gotta remember that numbered compound trick). Finally my unit was order to take over a enemy bunker, said bunker had quite a few people running around one of which i shot like 15 times before he died. Having finally taken it over with no loss of life, I was then told of a enemy technical spg, we started firing at it and i got to see the rocket hit me square on the nose killing me and my unit.
