Missions (ArmA 2):
  • Highway
  • Inter III
  • Blackfolkdown
  • UNder Pressure
  • Finale XL
  • Cholo (after-party)
In the end, 42 comrades came for our last Sunday foray into Takistan, and FA's penultimate ArmA 2 session (not counting the excellent V+ sessions, which will remain ArmA 2 for a while yet). By the time I handed over the hosting controls to comrade Ferrard Carson, we'd been playing for over 4 hours, and a squad's worth of comrades were setting off on a new mission. I think that says something pretty cool about FA. Thank you to everyone who came along.

We began in true FA fashion, with a bungled ambush in Highway, but somehow managed to kill enough vehicles to sort of accomplish the mission. Possibly. Next, we headed to our main base of operations for the evening: Zargabad. In a particularly confusing and bloody run-through of Inter III, OPFOR demonstrated perfectly the value of the MG as a tool of suppression, fixing the INDFOR defenders in place and then moving up for the kill. Then it was daylight, and we were still in Zargabad, but this time we were Americans in helicopters, swooping in to capture some warlords in Blackfolkdown. When comrade CO Tigershark got into the passenger seat of comrade Rook's attack LB, many of us in Charlie 'Special Needs' Squad were afraid - but credit to Uncle Tiger, much of the platoon made it to the end of the second objective (when we called it). My favourite part was watching comrade SuperU turn and shout 'OMG you just saved me!' to a comrade ... right before a DShKM round shredded his body. There was no time for grief, though: UNder Pressure saw us rushing to the aid of civilians in the Mosque, under the command of (a resurrected) comrade CO SuperU. Agonisingly, our forces arrived at the Mosque barely a handful of minutes too late to prevent the massacre, but it was stunning to see our mechanised platoon take almost no casualties until the very final phase of urban combat. And so to Finale XL, which didn't disappoint: there was sad, sad music, waves of enemy tanks, and a great deal of dying. So Folk ARPS.

That was the last ArmA 2 session I'll host (and I've been doing this since August 2010). I'd like to post a thank you to the large cast of characters who've made our ArmA 2 era so enjoyable. Comrade hosts and former hosts: Bodge, Cam, Cap, Dancemoox, Ferrard Carson, harakka, Headspace, IceRaiser, Nullkigan, Pr3sario, Tigershark, Satire, Strang, SuperU, SvDvorak, Washington, Wolfenswan. Also, all of our brave comrade mission makers, who between them have created nearly 275 missions for our community! That's one hell of an accomplishment, and we should be tremendously proud of what FA has been so far. Whilst on the one hand, I'm sad about this era coming to an end (I'll miss Takistan and Chernarus, BMP-2s, AKs), on the other hand the Party isn't going anywhere: we're just shifting our operations to Altis. We're taking our fight for a socialist agrarian utopia to the future! (where the value of 'the future' is: next weekend). See you there, comrades.

:v:

As ever, please post your thoughts, feedback, screenshots and video here - comrade YouTube Hero SuperU's FA doesn't just produce our video idents, but provides leadership and guidance to propaganda artists. We also have a new YouTube channel that he manages so if you have any content you think should feature then let him know and he will sort you out, for more info check out this thread!; more guidance on video editing for Folk ARPS is provided by comrade Ferrard Carson. Posts in the AAR threads really help us (the hosts and mission makers), both with understanding how we can improve the experiences, and showing potential comrades what our sessions are like.

Special Needs Charlie, gather round and I shall share the intel. The target will look like this:

or actually maybe this:

Image

It really depends on his mood really.. Now repeat after me, capture not kill.. Capture not kill. Good now back to placing bets as to how quickly AH1 will get shot down since it's doing taxi service to CO Tigershark..

I rather enjoyed Black Folk Down, Charlie did some botany workshops and relaxed at the LZ for a bit before heading out. We lost some people and I should have used more smoke to cover us as we leapfrogged compounds but anyway we took our objectives when even down to four dudes. Shame word of the angry angry HMG didn't reach SuperÜ in time..

Thanks to Fer for hosting a landmark session, I shall see you all both in the scary future lands of A3 where the planets oxygen has been drastically depleted and also right here right now at V+.

Also today I learned I'm so intimidating that closing a door can lead to an undisciplined comrade fearing for his life so much that it leads to him firing on a superior moustached officer :commissar:

For now I must go, the duties of a failed M113 driver turned Secret Service operative are never done...
ramming speed!

Fer, this was also my favorite part. I think I may have also got it on video!

There'll be another regular Arma 2 session on Tuesday, though, right? The last one?

Yes, last night's session was the penultimate one. Tomorrow's will be the last.

Alright, let's get this going.

Highway - B2 (I'm guessing) AR
Squad Lead: Everyone get into this ditch for cover!
Me: *peaks out of ditch and dies very quickly*
Not my proudest moment, honestly.

Inter - A2 (Again guessing, really should write these down) AAR
Find 'em, fix 'em, flank 'em was the strategic approach for our assault: the MMG team would shower the enemy position with fire whilst the small arms guys pushed up into position. With a lot of open ground to cover SL Wolfenswan jumped into a BTR to utilise as a moving bullet shield/sponge. Our fireteam got in place to its side and gave the go-ahed for Wolf to move up, which he did - only at 60kph, leaving us to do a mad run to the nearest cover. Organisation got patchy on our end for a while, and I was killed by a stray bullet when looking the wrong way.

Blackfolkdown - Bravo Bard
We had a closed briefing for this mission - only element leads were briefed directly by the CO, who then broke tasks down for their FTs. I'm a big fan of this as it keeps tailors the information the squads receive down to what's relevant and nothing else, rather than everyone know everything that's going on.
IT ALSO MEANS KEV CAN PLAY SOME TUNES  . Played a little ditty on the banjolele at Strang's request, though I had to play over VON because I'm just not good enough to be able to play a song and hold down the PTT button. I'll find a way in the future, though.
Upon landing FTL Penney suddenly died as if someone pulled him out of the matrix. Our AT guy got shot up somewhere along the way, too, leaving only me and comrade Boberro to kick ass and chew gum - and Penney had all the gum. Our squad bounds up to the Mosque where I mishear our orders and accidentally clear out the mosque alone and capture the warlords, only for alpha to steal them from me after I had the warlords take cover. ALPHAAAAAAAA!

Finale - Dr Azim
Well here it is, the finale finale. As the faithful doctor my job is to hide behind Draakon and go heal people when they get hit by those angry tanks. The only medic request I get is from the BMP after they take a hit (very easy to find due to them being on fire - FTLs please consider lighting casualties in the future to help medics) and after getting them up everything has gone to crap. Draakon runs away to commandeer a tank so I charge the enemy and get shot by the nearest tank crewman. FA's A2 Sunday sessions end for me bleeding out in a stream in a dark, explosions and angry gunfire all around. Couldn't be more fitting.

I'll bring it to the future, I will find a way. Otherwise I'd miss it, too :psyduck:

Ok, I'll write AAR-ish post. With letters, not with single image. Are you happy, Fer?

Inter III (I guess I was on the rebel side)
If there's one thing I won't be missing in A3, is trying to guess if that guy in front of me is takistani local, or takistani rebel. I was walking with someone from outside my team, as my team was lying wounded, trying to find the shooter. We found and killed him. As only survivor of my team was being helped by someone else, I moved forward to gueard the flank, looked at my "colleague" and in the moment I realized it was the enemy, I was dead.
When I got to the spectator screen I found no other bodies by mine, so I guess others did not realized what happened, and he got away with his life.

Blackfolkdown (Bravo 2 AR)
Soon after disembarking our Penney had a stroke and died. I was totally unprepared to lead, but thankfully MrKev and Bones were more clever than me. Alpha got to the warlord before us, and was arrested or killed, depending on who was asked, or according to the spectators view, was left in his mansion.
When we got to the mosque to get another warlord, I saw two enemies and shot them. Since one was only wounded and crawled away, I rushed after him, only go find his leader and his grenade launcher...

UNder Pressure (Gong 2 driver)
Surprisingly we never got an order to actively search for mines on the road, which was my biggest fear. Gong2 vs the world: 1-0
When we finally got hit by SPG-9 (I guess), everyone survived. Gong2 vs the world: 2-1

Finale XL (Charlie Machine gunner)
I'm temped to open this mission in the editor and check if it physically possible to destroy all this tanks without commandeering one, but I guess that would spoil all the fun.
I waited for everyone else to die (later I discovered the lied to me being all silent on TS, there was still someone alive) and charged on the tanks with my M9.

Cholo (Junkie Commander)
No one followed my plan, even me.

Am I ever? Do not attempt to answer that, comrade. However, your use of words has been noted. Those men outside your house will leave you alone for a while.
