[Sun] 12 December 2010 (MARSOC & LDDK)

Post by Spinoza »

Well now boys and girls, I had fun tonight, how about you? Thank´s for showing up in such numbers, we had to fight without some of our regulars (flu). But all in all a rather successful evening.

Round one:
Bit of a haze, I lost my gameaudio so I was deaf. Less said the better.

Round two:
After the teamleader and squadleader got themselves shot, the leadership came to me. I succesfully managed to stay alive and blew up atleast one cache and put satchels on a second one but got shot before I had to the chance to trigger the C4.

0-2 in favour of Folk & MARSOC. Well played, enjoy your revolution. We shall return...

EDIT: Finally got the event posted in LDDK news

That was absolutely amazing. Would be great to go again soon.

About the missions it self:

Mission One:

Plan:
Bravo Squad fakes the attack on the eastern flank with M2s and massive fire-power, while Alpha squad infiltrates from the west. Once Alpha has established contact, Bravo moves in on the eastern stashes for the kill, while Alpha pushes in from the west.

Execution:
Alpha managed to infiltrate the western flank just fine. The enemy didn't expect their approach. With little to none losses they managed to inflict quite some damage and searching several positions quickly. At the same time Brave caught the attention of the guerillas, just as expected. With the focus on Brave, Alpha managed to take out several unaware enemies and move closer onto the stash positions.
Unfortunately PL got taken out early in the game as we where trying to suppress enemy from the northern flank.
Once Alpha has secured the centre, Bravo mate its move on the eastern stash locations. Regretfully I had to witness how two enemy players where able to kill at least 6 soldiers of Bravo at one of the eastern stash locations.
Apart from this incident, we controlled the pace and the movement pretty much from the beginning of the mission, leaving the enemy in a defensive and responsive posture, with little possibilities to reposition and to support.

At the end of the mission we managed to kill all enemy players while we still had more then 10 ppl alive.
Great job there from both Teams. Well done

Mission Two:
Plan: The map was divided into two zones. Alpha Squad was tasked to cover the north-western sector while Bravo Squad secure the south eastern sector.

Execution: First Unit in contact was Alpha FT, although they managed to disable one M2 they got taken out by support elements. Shortly after The enemy formulated a two pronged attack from the north western and south eastern side, advancing on the stashes rapidly. Due to the fog of war and confusion I can hardly say how exactly the situation evolved. All I can state is that Alpha held its ground fought of the attackers from the north and the west, then chose a defensive posture around the centre crate. Alpha lead flanked around the south at some point to infiltrate behind the enemies approach and disrupt their movement.

Ultimately we stalled their attack until the mission time was over.
By the end of the mission there where 6-8 players alive on our side and an unknown number on the other.

All in all a fantastic gaming night.

An outstanding evening on the LDDK server. Huge thanks to everyone who came from MARSOC, and of course to all Folk comrades; lastly, but most definitely not least, thanks to LDDK for being such wonderful hosts (and sports).

Hasta la victoria siempre! :hist101:

My own AAR post will follow during the week, but for now, feast your eyes on these wonderful official photos from LDDK:

Great mission. I think I killed one or two people each game.

It always impresses me how EASY it is to get killed in Urban combat.

Good times. We def. should do that again. We should have a massive TVT on Shapur, maybe the "attackers" landed at and secured the airfield and have to move through the area or something.

Cacheola (adversarial) (MARSOC & Folk as BLUFOR)

- BSL: Fer
|-- Medic: Mort
|
|- Bravo 1 FTL: Headspace
|- Bravo 2 FTL: General Carver
|- Bravo 3 FTL: depth08 (MARSOC)

With more experience playing as BLUFOR, it was a natural choice for MARSOC to command the platoon in the first round. Sonsalt was duly volunteered as PltCo, Spirit led an almost all-MARSOC Alpha, and I took command of Bravo with two folk-fireteams and one from MARSOC.

Sonsalt's plan was simple and ingenious: whilst Bravo used its .50 cal hummers and dismounted SAWs to simulate an attack on the AO from the east, Alpha would infiltrate through the streets to the west. I mounted my squad in 3 hummers, with Bravo 1 leading our little column out to a squad forming-up point (FUP) north-east of the villa (I rode with Carver's Bravo 2, mort with depth08's Bravo 3).

At the FUP I asked all ARs and AARs to dismount, as it had been suggested (by Carver) that we could use the SAWs to increase our fire on the town. The dismounts, of which mort and I were now part, duly set off south to take up positions on a hill overlooking the AO from the east. Meanwhile, Headspace's Bravo 1 led off a widely-spaced column of Hummers, as they began what would become a constant orbit of the eastern and southern edges of the AO, using their .50 cals to fire at targets of opportunity. But I had already blundered. Twice.

The dismounts were too far out to fire on the AO effectively, so almost instantly we were forced to re-position, moving westward cross-country to the relative cover of some small outlier compounds. Valuable time was lost, but this was actually the lesser of my mistakes. The bigger mistake had been splitting the fireteams across the vehicle crews and dismounts. Communication became disjointed, and I struggled to organise the SAWs effectively (which was my short-coming, not theirs).

:siiigh:

Worse news was to follow: Sonsalt went down, and soon two of my Hummers had taken hits from RPGs. We were taking casulaties now, and with the .50 cals almost out of ammunition I called for us all to rally on a spot near Headspace's Bravo 1 marker. Our last remaining functional Hummer duly transported the survivors at my own location down to Headspace, and the squad (which was still at 60-70% strength) prepared to assault on foot.

By this time Spirit had assumed command of the platoon, and I could see that Alpha was making excellent progress to the north-west. Under pressure to renew our own attack, I threw a fireteam forward to clear a potential cache site on the other side of our cluster of buildings. Now things started to fall apart.

Inside the small compound, though we had no idea at the time, two insurgents were holed-up with excellent views of an actual cache (which at that moment I was also not aware of). In moments, several of my men were killed entering the compound, but I had thought the fire to have come from north of our position (when in fact one gunman was inside the same building against the wall of which I was then sheltering with the remnants of Bravo 1). Immediately, I sent Carver's Bravo 2 to flank around to the north, whilst I tried to get a handle on how many men I had left from the other fireteams. Headspace was down, but Messiah gamely stepped up to lead Bravo 1.

As Carver's men moved, I snuck into the building next to me to try and get eyes on the inside of the compound. Seeing the cache, I started to call in the location to Spirit over TeamSpeak. Distracted by the map (and, wrestling a little with an unfamiliar TS3 set-up), I failed to notice that I was not alone in the building. LDDK's Bruun, I believe, riddled me with bullets.

:commissar:

Bruun and his accomplice (whose name I didn't catch) accounted for a high proportion of Bravo casualties. Comrade G had heroically killed Bruun's accomplice, but lost out to Bruun at the last moment. For a long time it seemed as if the attack on the cache site had come to a halt. However, 10-15 minutes later, the attack on the cache site was renewed, and this time Bruun fell (though not before taking at least one more scalp). LDDK had been wiped out, and we registered a win (our first as a combined platoon fighting against humans).

Congratulations to everyone in the platoon, and my apologies to Bravo. I am but a simple farmer.

Just posting to say a HUGE thank you to MARSOC for coming
along to the joint session with LDDK. It was epic, and I know
that all comrades from Folk enjoyed playing alongside you
(even if you are reactionary BLUFOR lapdog servants of the
capitalistic machine).

I hope we'll have a chance to do this again - having just
chatted with the leader of LDDK, I know his group will be keen
to get their revenge on us all in the new year!

Hasta la victoria siempre!

Damn that was fun.

As FT3 Lead I must conclude (even though 2 of us survived
through the end) that
I was too tired to lead, but I had help from my team. So we
did ok.

Second session I was MG with Fer and the only one in that
fireteam that died.
I was MG and stayed at the same position for too long after
opening up.
Watching them afterward I think we could learn something about
FT CQB
short term tactics.

Next time lets do Coop
I seriously want to mow down AI with 50+ players

/BoSS

PS: We also had fun with Defend the base on Folk server after
the session,
but I spent more time waiting to be revived than actually
shooting at stuff

overall it was an intense mission

for me it was nearby like everytime, running around for hours,
seeing nothing or being killed by the very first contact

in the first mission I (FT3-AAR) after an hour I got killed by
a RPG directly into my back, nothing more to say

in the second one I decided to be sniper, damn bad idea, I'm
not able to see a shit at night, now I know, I tweaked a bit
on the Gamma-setting so I became able to see at least the way
I move, and I had a contact ( ) on two soldiers west of us
where I hit one, we repositioned, I followed my spotter onto a
street and we got shoot from the back
next time I'd go to the minaret for recon only

so at all 2 men seen in 2 hours, increases the average by 1
per hour, so, mission successfull

on the base defense after that I got shot several times while
being in good cover position
but this is a nice one, I like such stuff
the weapon deployment of ACE is such a good thingy, you will
know it when you not have it
should do it in MARSOC, would be great

I will also make a full report later on but before that is
done by here already: THANKS ALL who participated and all who
were part of the organisation. Big thanks!.

It was awesoem to see so many units busy on the map shooting
each other to bits. with more then 30 players only on the
bluefor side it was awesome to see the map on the first
mission and see all that markers starting to move to position.

I had a VERY sudden call to replace PL but i think we took
that over allso quite decently. After that i mainly saw the
map and a few TS conversation Freefire thanks for
outstandingly taking over the Alpha squad on my sudden
promotion

Second mission was great to feel the incoming danger of the
BLUEFOR to our poor farmer guns. Its by far not as easy to
defend but in a way we were successful at it. Althought the
BLUEFOR sniper must have had a an awesome evening as he was
target practise shooting a lot of us down from the Villa.

AGAIN, AWESOME TO SEE SO MANY OF US ENJOY THE GAME. Next time:
BIGGER, MORE AND MORE

Gentlemen. I would like to echo the comments of others when I
give out a big thank you to all who participated and to the
professionalism and skill shown by MARSOC last night.

It was an OUTSTANDING success and a great way to round out a
great year of ARMA gaming.

I would also like to personally thank bigboss, almanzo and
Crow who proved themselves outstanding FT members and very
skilled players.

Our training shows and as someone who was sceptical of it at
first I am not the biggest fan of it.

WE JUST NEED MORE! We could use a lot more CQB and FT movement
training/practice.

Thanks gents. It was awesome

*salute"

It was nice session.
My few words about it.

1. mission - as BLUFOR.

Nothing much to say here... Alpha successfully infiltrated in
the townform Wesr, while Bravo took all the heat at East, so,
when we reached the target area, we got to deal with remaining
forces in the town. which wasnt hard

2. mission - as Indipendent...

This for sure went fubar
Enemy made first push through West, as it seemed from my
position. Again, another team took all the heat there
Then enemy sniper started to pick Bravo guys one at a time,
adn it seemed that we had nothing against him, because he
worked really openly ( what our snipers did?)...
After five or so minutes (after action started at West) Bravo
2 was attacked from East... Anyway, it wasnt clear, because
info didnt come to us really clear. After some time we just
knew form text messages that Bravo 2 was gone. So we changed
our location, hoping that we can ambush the enemy on their way
in the town. After taking postion against the enemy, we
started to move against him, and right at the moment when
FreeFire crossed the street, he got shot by light MG burst. I
think Steely panicked a bit there, because he also got on the
street after what he got shot by the same light MG burst....
That didnt encourage me and XRAY for movement against
enemy.... So we backed one house away and started to cover
each corner. After that XRAY managed to take one enemy down on
the street side. We didnt change the position straight away,
which now I think was a mistake, because XRAY after minute or
so got shot on the street, leaving me alone with my thought
and... yeah, with my rifle I retreated one house back form
position, and it took only couple of seconds there for sniper
to take me down with one shot....

Some screenshots, including defending plan.

Also I would like to have coop in such numbers...

As someone who has played very large co ops with these kinds
of numbers I can say that they aren't as good as you might
imagine.

Apart from the fact that you can't add a lot of AI due to
server load, you spend a lot of time waiting around and it
nearly isn't as much fun and team vs team.

But but all means we can try it....just don't set your heart
on it being as good as MARSOC sessions just with higher
numbers.

As you saw this weekend, scaling up the number of players in a
session brings about a whole new set of challenges in
organising 60 people.

Well, organising 3 communities, who weren't even in direct
contact over TS, i think the organising went pretty smooth,
should we ever join up on 1 side, we need a general setup and
comms system.

Cacheola (adversarial) (LDDK as BLUFOR)

- Alpha FTL: Fer
|-- AR: BoSSMan
|-- AAR: Viper
|-- R (RPG): Mort

So of course, everyone knows what happened after I reached the Mosque. Here's how I got there:

For this round folk's Headspace was the overall CO, with MARSOC's Sonsalt taking DC (deputy commander). With six fireteams (Alpha through Fox), we had enough people to create two squad-sized elements. Alpha, Bravo and Charlie fireteams were given to Sonsalt, who was tasked with looking after the northern and western approaches. Headspace himself took command of Delta, Echo and Fox. Anticipating an LDDK attack from the west, Sonsalt sent a fireteam (maybe Charlie?) out to the construction complex in the city's north-west quadrant. My own fireteam was just west of the mosque, occupying the upper storeys of two adjacent buildings. Set back from the windows (and with specific orders from Sonsalt not to get onto the rooves), we waited and listened to the comms chatter, and it wasn't long before the fireteam out at the construction complex was being engaged. We knew we'd be next.

When BLUFOR arrived, they were creeping straight towards us from the west. Being well organised they moved with caution; we weren't able to catch them in the open, so our initial firefight was conducted at less than 20m range, with both sides making good use of hard cover. IIRC, we traded fire with them several times, shifting positions in our buildings whilst they ducked and dived around theirs. During one exchange we lost our AR, BoSSMan, and in another mort (who was on a balcony overlooking the east-west MSR to our immediate north) was injured. Fortunately, Viper (BoSSMan's combat buddy) was able to dash across the courtyard and join mort and myself, whilst I dragged mort into the building and patched him up. After another short pause we once again had the opportunity to engage the enemy, trading fire across our little courtyard. Then ... nothing.

Listening again to the comms chatter, it was clear that other fireteams were having a harder time (reflecting on it later, my guess is that we were only facing a handful of BLUFOR at our own location). Perhaps accordingly, Sonsalt wanted to pull in our perimeter, so we shifted east to the Mosque. As we crossed the road we took some fire - my understanding is that LDDK had put some kind of support team up on the hill to the north of the city. We weren't pinned, but it certainly made us happy to see the inside of the mosque. After that, we went firm in that structure. By now Sonsalt was in overall command, and - as best as I can make out - running around to our south playing hit-and-run against a BLUFOR attacking force. For everyone else in Sonsalt's 'squad', the orders were clear: sit tight, hold our little area, and thus defend the final cache location. So hold we did.

Out of curiosity, Viper and I went to have a look out of the mosque's eastern gate. Mort was on top of the mosque roof, acting as a lookout. And we all know what curiosity did to the cat, right? Viper made it to the safety of the stairs leading to the top of the outer walls. I did not. As I lay, most likely bleeding out, the mission ended. We had won!
