Missions:
  • Amphibious Attack
  • Roadside
  • GooseChase
  • Karavan
  • Afterparty: Two Days to Retirement Vybor
Over 50 comrades turned out tonight, which is pretty damn amazing. Thank you to everyone who came along, these playercounts give us the chance to play almost any FA mission, from large coops to adversarials and even allowing us to continue our adventures in puppeteering. That's a superb place for FA to be.

Amphibious Attack took us to Utes, an island we don't often visit. The large numbers we lost there may be a clue as to why, although the Party thanks brave heroes who managed to take the final (limited) objective on time. New mission, Roadside, was very very short, but comrade SuperU's QRF squad totally survived, making everything okay. Then there was the long distance craziness of GooseChase, which OPFOR managed to win for a change. Finally, granting comrade Mike's wish for puppeteering, Karavan saw comrade EBass' TK Army platoon fail to extract in the Party-supplied helicopters, but still kill all the insurgents. Frankly, given what was going down on insurgent radio comms (it involved the words "Assasin" and "Actual"), this was a good thing. The afterparty featured some armed long-hairs, grenades and a very lethal ladder.

As ever - and new comrades in particular - please post your thoughts, feedback, screenshots and video here (PM any of the hosts for details of FA YouTube channel) - and remember there the a new video ident by comrade YouTube Hero SuperU. Posts in the AAR threads really helps us (the hosts and mission makers), both with understanding how we can improve the experiences, and showing potential comrades what our sessions are like.

Amphibious Attack
Bravo 1 FTL, later BSL

This was a new mission for me but I did phenomenally well scoring 2nd place at the end with 10 kills (no match for the BTR's 60 kills, though)
We reached the beach uneventfully, some enemies took potshots at us but died promptly. We proceeded uphill towards our objective but very quickly found ourselves in wide open terrain with heavy fire coming from two different directions. I went down, crawled back, got pulled up by Joe, went to drag Stoner back, got shot, got revived again.. It was a mess. So basically we got bogged down for at least 5-10 minutes while Alpha and Charlie were getting shit done. We finally made it to our objective only to watch it be destroyed by Charlie. :siiigh:

Next, we were tasked with covering east, but the hail of bullets coming from that direction was too strong for us to do anything. At this point BSL died and I assumed command. However, by this point, B2 was wiped out and B3 had one man left.. I had us disengage from the battle and head South with what seemed like the remainder of the platoon. We reached the first hangar on the airfield with relative ease, but here's where all hell broke loose. As we moved East to the next building, we came under heavy fire. Joe went down in the open field and as I smoked the field, I watched in horror as IceRaiser ran over him and another Bravo member with the vodnik. What the hell man... you killed like three teammates :argh:

I gave the order to charge the last objective but got shot in the back before I could see the mission through to the end. Good times.

Roadside
We drove into an ambush, we all bailed out, and stayed in the killzone. Good job guys, really stelar. Here's a tip, if you find yourself being ambushed, get the hell out of the killzone IMMEDIATELY. We could have made it out if all of Bravo didn't huddle around the truck and get shot to pieces. Halop and I ran took cover behind a nearby rock but what I would have done is gone uphill to the east to a better position.

The chaos was definitely fun, though.

GooseChase
We flew around, landed, got picked up, landed, shot at some people, tried to get picked up but the chopper was too damaged from a hard landing so we got some vehicles but by then it was way way way too late to go chasing after the other hostage. Plus there was a lot of communication fails between the choppers and ground. oh well

Karavan
Hehe I killed a lot of people this mission :clint: Was a lot of fun, we basically sat around and waited for the enemy to come to us. Bodge, nice kill on the helicopter at the end there.
We had more communication fails this mission, we should definitely figure out what went wrong there.

See y'all next week!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Amphibious Attack~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As A3 leader, I bravely drove my Vodnik through the crashing waves, despite beratement from my backseat drivers. Once B3 and C3 had got out, and we rendevouzed with the rest of Alpha, we went on a merry adventure, looking at trees with much paranoia, running down to hangars and getting shot. Oh, and I almost piloted the C-130 out of the mission, before it was force-stopped. This made me sad a little.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Roadside~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In all honesty, there oughto be some variety of marker indicating hot zone. >.>

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Goosechase~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
as A1 lead, we merrily chased the pings, until we actually found one! Yes, despite confusion over who was leading who, Waffly came running up to me, and I shouted him onto a helicopter. I'm not sure if he was on it when it crashed, but I did my job, at least.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Karavan~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

I admit to not having payed much attention to comms on this, and I apologize. It was quite fun to get shot down, though.

Amphibious Attack
BTR 90 Driver
I am quite a fan of BTR 90s, they pack quite a punch. Unfortunately I was in the driver position which lead to much of the mission being like this:
http://cloud-2.steampowered.com/ugc/921 ... FBEE71CB0/
Which did result in me being massively insecure for much of the mission. Thankfully SuperU gave out much more pain than we received and Mamuto gave instructions precise enough that my lack of vision and direction finding didn't matter. We provided long range fire support for Alpha and Bravo and then cleared the airstrip where some close range MG fire took out mamuto leaving Super and me to ram the radar to death.

Roadside
ASL
We got told to head off, we headed off, we got shot up. Not really that much else to say really except that driving towards MGs in a truck is strangely painful.

GooseChase
BSL
We had a lot fewer men for this than i realised. We hopped about a bit before being re tasked from our original target towards the one heading West. Touching down south of Nadezhdino, we moved fast North and engaged hostiles in the area before being instructed to pull out as we had the hostage. I could still hear gunfire to the North so pushed up while ordering my squad to head South to secure an LZ. Soon it was evident that the hostage and CO had fallen foul of something or other.

With the other target fast on his way to Solichniy for pick up we needed to move fast. I couldn't raise anyone on comms so told my squad to head to the chopper and try to intercept, this was when our chopper hit the ground too hard breaking its engine. I ordered the men to mount in any vehicles they could find and I investigated the sound of gunfire to the North, finding a lone Fer in the woods. It wasn't much longer till the hostage was smuggled away by the opposition and the round ended.

Karavan
Assassin 5 FTL
We were AI squad 5 and pushed in as the Southernmost element in a 5 team assault on the town from the East. We went low and constant pushing up to the first set of buildings before opening up on a couple of guys in buildings, unfortunately attracting the attention of a HMG and rifle fire cutting up a significant amount of my team. I picked up the PKM and moved down to the road suppressing the buildings from a different angle. Again heavy fire was returned and I was left with two men, I could hear the hostile choppers arriving and had to do something to prevent them escaping.

A RPG launcher lay on the ground nearby, I picked it up and ran Southwest to find the chopper as it landed. I turned to take a shot, wounding myself on a tree and going into some crazy animation loop. I managed to break the loop by dropping the launcher, then picking it up again all the time hoping I wasn't spotted and the Chopper didn't take off, even without a tail rotor (I knew one of the choppers had been damaged) it could serve as an extraction. Eventually I hit the chopper with two rounds disabling it completely, the only problem now being i had no legs. One other AI remained so I searched out a hostile to take me down so I could be more mobile, I was aware that I was probably the only unit left on the attacking team but I now had a PKM again! And no legs :( in my frustration I hosed the nearby buildings to gain some attention until it all went grey.

2 days to retirement
Bravo 1 Policeman
Ice drove us in as Black Mamba directed us North of target and then South-west towards it. We found a building with two hippies in it and set up at the entrances, I moved in to arrive face to face with one of them. We wounded each other but I had my FT behind me and they cleared and got me back up. We moved in towards Alpha who were taking fire and I noticed contact on the police station roof and let of a couple of rounds wounding a guy on the second from top layer. We moved in and I risked the ladder to the penultimate layer, our FT cleared the building and determined that the main building was clear so I went to go check the top layer where I managed to relay a gurgle before getting shot off the ladder.

My own AAR will be along Soon (TM) but for now sate yourselves with the fate of BluFor's Transport Helo 1 on GooseChase:

And here's why that ladder was lethal (particularly for comrade Bodge):

This was my first game with Folk / ARPS, and also my first multiplayer session that hasn’t been domination. I’d literally just installed JSRS, which added to my disorientation, but STHUD was the business.

Amphibious Attack: After dismounting the Vodnik next to a barn I ran inside to meet what I assumed to be a friendly team. They just stared listlessly at me so I bolted out of the side door, and things went to hell. Managed to get a bunch of kills (which wasn’t a recurring theme for the night), and then ended up as a Vodnik gunner with fer driving. As I scanned the hill to our front, I said “I can’t see anything,” and then the world vanished.

Roadside: Should have been called ‘Dismount at Spawn’. I think we took fire from more directions than we had team members.

GooseChase: I was in a group escorting hostages to the West when we were intercepted at Nadezhdino, with two choppers circling like vultures. My entire team died and I didn’t see any infantry before taking a bullet. I ended up following a team as a bird without realising they could see me. They said it was a bad omen, but we won so it's not true.

Karavan: I got a single kill and saw an Mi-8 explode in Bravo 1. That was all.

Two Days to Retirement: I accidentally fired while alt-tabbing to TS. (Is there a way to change TS channels in-game?) As a police officer, I met my end while we were trying to take the roof with the ladder. Silly me ran to the opposite side and took a friendly grenade to the face. My fault.

I had fun, for sure. I'll be back for more.

Before alt-tabbing, pres ESC to bring up the main menu, then alt-tab. When you alt-tab back, you will not accidentally discharge your weapon. Pretty universal for any shooting game.

Amphibious Attack Alpha 1 FTL

Not all that much to say, most of our work was done by the long range accurate fire of the BTR. Think perhaps the enemy needs a couple of SPGs or something to give the BTR a bigger threat than a few guys with RPGs. Anyway, wandered up the hill to what was less of a radio "tower" and more an ungodly mess of 20 radio towers and some crates all jammed together to make a radio castle. None of us were quite sure what part of it we needed to blow up, so in true ARPS fashion we decided bollocks to it and laid about 40 satchels on it before blowing them all at once and quite probably nearly crashing the server. Wandered over towards the airfield and took it without much problems before half our squad got shot up by some flanking enemies. I wandered over to all the dead and wounded guys and began picking them up, wondering where all the enemy that had just shot them to bits had gone. At the partys instruction I then led my squad on a glorious charge to the other radar mast to find that the BTR had done our job for us (again) :)

Roadside

I kind of figured this plan was a good way to get us all killed very quick! Though it did, it was very very funny. As our lead truck took fire I bailed out and started laying down some RPK fire to the many enemies to our front, as the enemies started to fire back at me I rolled under the truck and hid. Somehow I wasn't down despite being hit at least 3 times. As I hid under the truck the rest of my squad just fell down dead, eventually I came out to try and pick people up and was promptly shot by about 2000 bullets. Was hilarious looking at the killzone from spectator mode, looked just like it does when an AI column gets ambushed, lots of shot up trucks and loads of bodies that didn't make it 2 feet from their vehicles as they got cut to shreds.

GooseChase

Odd mission, tracking the hostages down Alpha split up and took up position on the two roads to the North of the enemy near Vshnoye to cut off a retreat that way, but we quickly realised that they were heading West probably to Nazezhdino. Taking my 3 man fireteam, we double timed it to cut them off and moving at our quick pace we overtook them, and after laying in wait for a few minutes I saw them moving cautiously into the town from the East. Seeing as I could count at least 12 of them I figured it would be suicide to take them on, but I figured its often very very hard to locate a lone shooter in Arma if you're quite well hidden. So taking up position in a bush I began to shoot them, and shoot and shoot and shoot. After I killed about 5 I saw the hostage make a break for it, so I kept shooting and ended up wasting 10 of them. Our chopper landed and promptly got shot up a bit, apparently killing the hostage. (though I didn't know this at the time) after a while we saw the second hostage moving out to the East so I tried to call in our air support for a chase, but Tiger landed on a tree and blew up, killing me at the same time. Oh well :)

Karavan

I felt the plan wen't quite well, as instead of usually getting overwhelmed we managed to kill all the enemy with fairly light casualties, unfortunately we still lost, because our choppers landed in a bit of a hot zone and took a few bullets and rockets that left them in a distinctly unaerodynamic condition.

You can bind hotkeys to change channels in TS3, it will however require quite allot of binds to allow you to change through all channels.
