Many thank yous to the 54 brave comrades who charged headlong into the warm embrace of enemy boolets, spittle, and tank shells side by side, arms interlocked and singing! Today, we died in the pursuit of the likes of:
  • Poctalon
  • Whitewash
  • Greenola (not so much a "heavy fog" as a goddamned shamal storm!)
  • Dash
  • Fuel Raid
We began with Wolfenswan's updated and working Poctalon, wherein NAPA data thieves bashed themselves piecemeal against the veritable stone wall of Russkie boolets. Even bringing down one of their choppers in a hail of DShKM fire didn't halt the unstoppable Russian juggernaut. Whitewash was a cakewalk as we waltzed into Zelenogorsk while a symphony of miniguns obliterated anything and everything in our path. All that changed when the fire nation T-72's attacked. Greenola featured an agonizingly slow chopper ride and the very befuddled and confused US Army platoon wandering around blind in a sandstorm for 30 minutes while IndFor twiddled its thumbs. Dash was an abortive lesson on why charging machine-guns and autocannons with Jackals and civvie vehicles is never a good idea, and we closed out the night with a nice Fuel Raid, featuring some frenetic worm action as OpFor got whittled down until only three reached the gas station.

Again, thank you for coming along on the ride, and a special thank you to everyone who attended today's workshop! A reminder to all workshop attendees, please be on time in order to minimize headache and glitches.

Enjoy your workweek!

Driver in IFV(Technical)-1
We were supposed to be one of two Fast-response units and our fast response of having a chopper hovering at low altitude right in front of our noses was to shoot it down. When the CO was hit we were ordered to pick him up and upon doing so, got obliterated ourselves.
Whitewash
Bravo 2 Lead
This was my first time leading a Fireteam.
Even though I think I did alright overall (keeping an eye on where my guys were and making sure they knew where we were getting contact from) I was unsure about how autonomous I was supposed to act under command of the SL. This led to my Fireteam leading a flanking run on the probably already obliterated contact we had at the north eastern forest from our position at the barn marker (with me having to be reminded that I maybe, sorta should at least tell the SL about it).
So yeah, I think communication with the SL is something that I'm as of yet unsure how to handle. Any feedback (white, got any remarks?) or help would be greatly appreciated.
I also want to thank my Fireteam for bearing with me, as I figured things out. Especially Dan, whose reminders and generally active communication helped a great deal. And you too, if you guys have any feedback, especially things that I could improve, I'd be very grateful.
All in all it was a fun mission and none of my guys died! Until we decided to go back to try to evac the platoon, unknowing about the 2 T72s that were about to appear.
Greenola
Alpha 2 Lead
I think when people that don't like Arma try to explain why, they talk about something like what my FireTeam and I experienced.
A loooooooong chopperride (with fun guessing games with Ebass) followed by a looooooong walk only to be shot within the first two seconds of contact.
At least Anvil couldn't record more of my failings.

Gunner on INDFOR IFV2 - Callsign "T2"

We were delayed getting to a first map marker as comrade Bandzai was having an attack of the ARMA Gremlins and took a while to load in

Nothing happening at out first mark and the radio chatter doesn't inspire much hope as it's going very quiet, very quickly. Having received no further commands from the CO, we start moving towards the crash site.

At this point, I hadn't realised that our IFV (more of a van with attitude) was all that remained of INDFOR..

What happened next was entirely my fault as I had what can only be described as a Senior Moment and my thought process went something like this:

"Look at all those Russians standing in the field.. Are they the ene.. OH FUUUUUUCCCC... Dakadakadaka* Bangthudsplotch**"

* Sound of my opening up with the Dushka at least 5 seconds too late.

** Sound of Russian bullet painting the countryside with my brains.

Charlie 1 AAR / Minigunner / Satchel Boy.

FTL - TigerShark

Immense fun right from the start with our CO Waffly moving us around like very militant chess pieces. Soon, the first enemy were encountered (by Charlie 1 anyway) at the gas station and I quickly discovered that the minigun's holo sight is purely eye-candy. A slight adjustment of fire and I was revenging myself on the enemy AI for all the times they've killed me.

Was disappointed not to find any live Brits; looks like the locals didn't like having them drop in uninvited.

Got to blow up Cougar Three and almost Mr. Link who forgot the Firework Code and started to plant a satchel of his own despite mine having already had its blue touch paper lit..

Then things got very lively as every T-72 on the planet appeared around us. Fortunately, IceRazor stamped on the gas and our SUV made a dash for the Exfil Point.

Others were not so lucky and I was just about to start mourning my soon to be lost comrades when I took a T-72 to the face.

Greeola (Not as green as expected)

BLUFOR Alpah 1 AAR - FTL : WhiteSymphonia

After the world's longest heli insert, during which many comments along the lines of "Who's flying, the Pilot or his Guide Dog?' were heard; we landed to find out why the poor Pilot had been struggling.

Visibility was 50 metres. Which favoured the defenders to the point that I believe that BLUFOR had zero chance of success as they didn't need to ID targets as anything moving was BLUFOR.

No, if there had been a 2:1 attacker to defender ratio and BLUFOR had advanced in line, I think we would have a had a chance. As it was, using BoFs and Overwatch proved fruitless when the FTs couldn't see from one piece of cover to the next.

Having engaged 2 lumps on the ridgeline to my front left, I was about to relocate to provide flank security when we got GP'd and I clung to the nearest rock for dear life. When I did get a chance to move, I went 2 paces and then was a spectator. I believe I fell victim to a first round hit from Pickers as he went about his killing spree.

Dash

Bravo 2 AR. FTL - Zitron

My least favourite FA mission as since it appears to be impossible. Either you die during the charge in or shortly afterwards when the enemy surrounds you with IFVs and AI.

I see 2 ways to fix this:

1. The Brits get Warriors and Challengers so at least we live long enough to dismount and secure a foothold in the town.

2. We go all Operation Irene and heli insert onto the roof tops as gunships strafe the enemy.

Playing this as-is = zero fun.

Fuel Raid

Wolves Bravo 2 Rifleman : FTL - Dan

The Purpleness of this mission cannot be over-stated and the bushes appeared to be growing radioactive berries.

I managed to actually medic properly for once, killing the enemy that shot Dan, throwing a smoke between us and the best guess at where other enemy where and then healing Dan without ND'ing.

Alas, I crouch-sprinted shortly afterwards when I should have crouch-walked or sat and listened a while which earned me another bullet in the face.

A Medic- Black mamba

Tasked with securing the forest to the north of the crash site, alpha landed and disembarked smoothly, setting up to cover bravos advance towards the data. After a few minutes of peace an quiet, mamba began screaming about bad guys coming from behind, right on top of us. I reoriented the squad to face north west, and we proceeded to murder the INDFOR dogs, and one of their technicals.

At this point, bravo was getting torn apart, so I ordered the squad over the hill above bravo and the datas position in an open field. What ensued was a very shouty exchange between me and acting BSL Wolfenswan over chopper extraction and the fact that both of the choppers were dead, just as the mission ended!

Whitewash
INDFOR
CO

The idea here was to use the M134's on the suv's as suppressive weapons, destroying all in their way and allowing the infantry to move up. 1 SUV per squad , although I understand that there maybe more than that! All went smoothly on the approach to zelenogorsk, with the SUV's cutting through the enemy like a knife through butter. We arrived on the northern edge of zelenogorsk, engaging a bunker at the petrol station before destroying a Chinook. We then swept south, destroying another Chinook before reaching the supermarket and its final chopper.

Now I was thoroughly unprepared to what came next, but I had a suspicion something like a tank force would come into play. We destroyed the final Chinook and then all hell broke lose. A lot of t72's (4?) attacked from the south, I gave the order for a full retreat back north to the staging area. I picked up the nearest 4/5 people in my suv and drove north to the barn, dropping them off before returning to pick up others. As I returned, I was hit by an MG round from a tank, rendering the hull on my suv red and leaving me injured. I was taken out of the SUV by a brave soul, who attempted to heal me. Im not sure what happened, but he didn't succeed and took off, continuing to rout north. Many other people ran past me, whether they couldn't hear me screaming for help over von or were just too busy running, I don't know. But what I do know is that they were all massacred further up the road.

I lay there at the cross roads, alone and bleeding out, with tanks rolling in from all directions. The chopper that A1 had taken flew over me, taking MG fire. I was talking on CC, half complaining that i'd been left there to die and half trying to ascertain who was left. Then, out of no where, skabooga appeared on the other side of the cross road. He quickly patched me up and got in contact on CC. We jumped in my heavily damage SUV and decided to make a break for it along the route that much of the force had been killed on, towards green mountain. Skabooga took off up the road, just as MG fire began to land near us. I returned fire in the most cinematic way possible and then looked to the right of the car. There, 200 metres away, 2 t72's rolled through the back area of houses next to where I had been not 10 seconds earlier. These were the same t72's, I assume, that killed off the routing guys on that route.

We escaped, barely. Of a force of 52 men, only 4 survived. A great success and an escape straight out of hollywood!

We charged in the fashion of the light brigade, with shot and bullet alike whizzing between our flimsy land rovers. Alpha got decimated by an autocannon of sorts, as did bravo, with both HAT'S taking position on some high ground. Superu had the bright idea of moving forward to another hill. We did so, just as a bmp-2 rolled over the rise about 100 meteres away from us. SuperU, in his scoped state, did not see this and paid for it with his life. I took up his javelin and took cover behind our car, looking to blow up the bmp. Said bmp decided to roll up to my car and park itself on the other side, waiting for me to make a move.

I sat there, laughing hysterically at my predicament and the irony that an rpg-7 would be more useful than my ultra expensive and high tech ATGM. I sat there awaiting my death, the bmp rolled around the back of my car, aiming at the other AT team. I took my javelin and fired point blanc. The round hit and destroyed the bmp. I giggled uncontrollably, taking out my L85 and delivering multiple 5.56 rounds for good measure, then the mission ended.

Poctalon - INDFOR Alpha 1 Leader.

Alfa 2 reported under attack, we rushed trough the trees to help them out, whilst trying to stay hidden. Then draakon, our SL, died.
I took command, switching on Channel Commander. Immeadite orders: Destroy data carrier.

We rushed towards the data carrier. My group was then engaged by the escorts (And we engaged them). I told my group to hold that position and continue firing whilst rushing towards the data carrier - I did not die, so I assume it worked. My senses were heigthened by adrenaline, I felt bloody tense. I stayed low at the hill, then noted trough the GPS system that I was close to the data carrier - I saw a head sticking out so I shot at that head, then bombarded that position with grenades, before running further to the right and charging up the hill (I. AM. GRIIIZLLYYY!), shooting several people who were still expecting me to sit at the location the grenade fire had come from. I executed those who were wounded, and thus got the data carrier. I noticed somethign moving to my left, and responded too late. Someone shot me.

Perhaps due to a combination of dismay due to our total annihalation and my burned out senses due to my suicide run on the enemy data carrier which almost turned out to be succesfull, I got so bloody tired that I left the session early. Sorry folks!

REDFOR BSL

So we went off flying to extract data from a crashed helicopter. My squad had the glorious task of acquiring said data. The landing went fine, the movement to and the securing of the crash-site was as a textbook example of how its done. Or in other words.. The enemy hadn't arrived in the AO yet. I had told my medic, mike, to get the data and the laptop, which my squad members thankfully reminded me was needed as well. Mike complained about this choice, but I thought it was best to give the stuff to someone who was supposed to stay back anyways. On our way to our extraction LZ we were finally hit by the opposing force, they attacked our southern flank. I set up a squad line facing S to hold them off, while I sent mike(medic) along with our CO towards Alpha which was supposedly in a more safe position in a forrest about 1km to our rear. Only problem was that there was a big open field between us. Mike died there, our CO died there and I died there trying to get them back up.

Whitewash
Bravo 3 - FTL

I secured a SUV, my team drove aound in our SUV, we guarded our precious SUV. Then we drove straight into a tank :x .
Those miniguns were effective.

Greenola
BLUFOR CO

Sigh...
This mission was to to blow up 3 weapon caches with about 20 possible places to look for them. I had a heliborne force of 2 x 10 man infantry squads to achieve this. The enemy was of equal size. The tactical decisions I made were:
1. Insert into the middle of the search area in an effort to split possible OPFOR forces into two
2. Keep the squads close to each other so they can reinforce each others position.
3. Pick an LZ that is safe for the helicopter and provides us with a safe route straight to the first cache position.

What I failed to pick up was the fact that the mission was set to super-heavy fog. I for one can only congratulate our pilot for not crashing in these conditions.
Once at the LZ we proceeded to our RV point along said safe route that was in a valley shielded from the main area.
Looking at the fog I decided to go along with the plan which had Alpha check out one cache location and then meet up with Bravo which were going into town via a different route.
Here is when things fell apart. Bravo got already ambushed at their first waypoint , which some random compound not even close to any cache location.
The enemy also managed to get between us and shoot at Bravos location. While I killed them I got engaged from Alphas cache objective, which I to the fog couldn't even see.
Shortly after all of Alpha were dead, literally in a span of 2 mins or so from when I saw them safely behind some rocks.
I decided to pull Alpha back to get them to Bravos location, who were also half a squad down. This might have been the biggest mistake, because probably a lot of guys got shot running away, but at the rate that Alpha was dying getting to the first cache location, seemed like good choice at the time.
Me, 6 man of Bravo and the remaining member of Alpha formed an ad-hoc squad at Bravos location and set out to clear the caches one by one in a squad-based coop style.
After checking the caches in the middle, I decided to proceed North. I apologize to all members of the opposing team for making the wrong choice there. 50/50.
After I was told that all caches were in the South, I contemplated transfering us all with the helicopter to the south side, but looking at the fog, made that a fake pickup and landing.
While we dashed South, we got reduced in numbers by enemies coming out of the fog, killing or injuring one of us before being put down.
With like 4 people left I assigned one remaining cache to each person and headed to one myself in a truck.
That truck got RPGed and I barely made it out.
Lying there, bleeding , some nice Insurgent gentleman came around behind my back and put me out of my misery.

Defenders - Draakons Team Nr. 4

For the first half of the mission I was sitting in a vehicle graveyard watching a direction the enemy wasn't at. Then Draakon went off to flank the attackers and was shot. Considering his icon was still on the screen I ran out where he was and tried to rescue him. Unfortunately he was dead. I still carried his dead corpse to the fuel station, considering I already ran all this way to get him. Back at the fuel station, I shot Zitron and got sniped by Ferrard. We still won in the end.

Alpha 1 Automatic Rifleman

I decided to lay back from my usual leading / piloting and do the third most fun thing, being an AR. It's fun to do because I have an excuse to just spray bullets in every direction, effectively covering up that I can't shoot for shit.

So we land, Wilson puts us in the nearest forest kind of thing without enemy contact. Not for long though as shortly after CC and Alphas Channel were full with radio chatter, directing us north east. I am prone all the time and do my thing as I spray bullets onto the enemy treeline, wasting 2 magazines. A technical rushed up to us, but Alpha just kills it outright, making it explode through just small arms fire. Or medium arms. At the end we advance to the crash site as Bravo got obliterated, and from then on I couldn't see anything. I just sprayed bullets when I heard "yeah they're south" and was about to go empty as we won the mission.

Whitewash

Weapons Team 1 MAT Dude

I won't risk my life to blow up a tank - tryteyker (MAT Dude)

So the above was the motto of the day. We were already mounted up in the SUVs and started heading out, without any real contacts. We got assigned to Charlie in the beginning and moved with them, and somewhere all hell broke loose because neither Kefirz nor Rawrnix were using STHud and they were getting lost pretty easily. After mindlessly running around we advanced to the gas station and I had the smart idea to rush forward and blow it up with my MAAWS. But I didn't get to do it as the locals already got killed there :(
So we advance and I start to lag. As we move into town Charlie 2 gets under fire and I try to avoid it, but eventually get hit. Crawling to Kefirz, he patches me up, but we had to do it a second time because apparently it wasn't working. So we move and move until the third Chinook where WE SPOT A GLORIOUS TRACTOR, UNITED WITH TRACTOR FACE (kefirz). Sadly I didn't take a picture :( But it was in a supermarket.
So after we rigged the Chinook, sanitized it, I had the glorious idea to go get something to drink, leaving Kefirz in a tight spot. The Tractor would be blowing up and I blocked him.
However I got back in time and moved out. And this is where the fun begins. We blow it up, and Tanks spawn. Everybody gets in SUVs and I have to go hike, but get stuck in the supermarket for a brief moment. After I moved out again I got shot, but a brave soul saved me. Eventually I moved with Crocuta, who was right infront of me as we saw Waffly DASH ACROSS THE CORNER in his SUV. As he came to a halt I was about to get in, but a T-72 started to fire down the road. I ran for my life, ignoring the fact I had a MAAWS on my back. SOMEBODY ELSE CAN SAVE HIM. I run across town, going North-East. I end up in the completely wrong direction and have to hike North through the woods, where I thought enemies were present ('cause of flags and stuff), so I moved carefully. As the mission ended I almost reached the staging point, YAY.

Haha.... actually we knew very well that destroying the choppers was Charlie's responsibility. We ignored that chopper at first, but then we got the call from our SL that for some reason we need to blow that chopper ourselves as Charlie had presumably ran out of satchels. So I *ahem* volunteered to do it. Then the following exchange happened:

Me: Ummm...hey guys, there is already a satchel planted here!!!!
Skabooga: Well plant another one anyways!

Then it dawned on me that whoever put it there might not realize that I was there, and I might end up with similar fate to those poor people who were near that tractor. So thanks for waiting for me to clear out

Obviously that didn't save me from the T72s eventually.

Poctalon
Deployed as an IndFor Alpha AR
The Russians are coming, the Russians are coming! Our informants have told us about some oily smoke marking the crash site of a most unfortunate Mi-8 carrying valuable intel! I follow my team-leader as he hesitantly leads us southwest, pausing every half-minute or so to reference his maps. Our goal is to seize Russian battlestation plans from the chopper's computers. There's a catch though - our IT guy was fired (at, by a firing squad) for sleeping with our warlord's daughter, and none of us peasants know how to work a computer. At all. This button makes it do magic, right?

A lack of clear direction from above led to my team more or less blundering straight into Russkie-occupied woods. One or two of my comrades went down and I laid down as much of a wall of lead as I could, but alas it wasn't enough, and I found myself floating over the battlefield, witness to the one-sided slaughter-fest that was the clear demonstration of Russian superiority to dudes in hunting hoodies.

Our comrades in the (un)armored branch of NAPA fared much better, downing not one, but two more Mi-8's and leaving the Russians with a long walk home. Maybe one of the invaders died of a heart-attack on the way back to base. Who knows?

Whitewash
Deployed as Bravo Squad Medic
A medic with a minigun. "What happened to 'Do No Harm'?" "See, I'm not doing any harm, the mini-gun is!" "Huh, I never thought of it that way..."

After one too many close calls of barely turning the gunshield in time to stop a bullet from entering my tender, tender flesh, I abandoned the gun and instead ran on foot, dispensing drugs to any and all takers. An uneventful sweep of the town yielded all three choppers, which were all quickly scrubbed clean of any evidence that might implicate our Illuminati masters completely innocent and well-intentioned employers, then destroyed to tie off this lovely little tale of British death.

Then the tanks came.

Greenola
Deployed as a Bravo FTL
More like Sandstorm-eola, amirite?

In the poor, poor visibility, it's a miracle Rawnix didn't crash us into the side of a mountain. Our landing was incredibly hairy though, as we drifted to and fro across the LZ like a drunken mule for nearly a minute before Rawnix definitively set us down.

A lengthy period of walking was followed by Bravo entering and securing a compound, only to be cut down like freshly mown grass upon exiting it.

Then our CO got creative:

Dash
Deployed as... wait, I was deployed at all?
So. Turns out that charging anything but Shapur 3 is a deathwish. Also turns out that following my lead last time by not using HAT teams correctly is also a deathwish.

On the plus side, ArmA has some difficulty in modeling close range Javelin shots:

Fuel Raid
Deployed as Alpha Team Ninja
I don't know what it is about this mission, but of the three times I've played it, twice I've become a goddamned murderizing ninja who survives to the end of the match. My team was slowly whittled down to just me as we tried to advance across a hillside. It was just me, Zitron and Dan in Bravo, and Waffly and Tired Hippo in Charlie. I threw out a smoke to distract the enemy, and then I went to work:

Total Score: 3 hard kills, 1 long, drawn-out kill, 1 wounding, 1 friendly fire
The last guy was ten meters away and didn't have tags, I swear! :psyduck:
