Christmas Challenge 2015

In many parts of the world, this time of year is associated with degenerate capitalist gift-giving. Naturally, here in glorious agrarian utopia we shun these obscene imperialist traditions and embrace communal poverty contests which bring us all together (just like the quarterly execution picnics the children love so much). As such--and certainly not because the Morale Division has to hit its annual quotas--I present you lot with an idea for your consideration.

The Easy Challenge Version: Create a new, never-before-run mission of any sort.

The Hard Challenge Version: Create a new, never-before-run mission of any sort AND it must adhere to the restrictions and/or use elements laid down by a Folk ARPS old-timer.

In either case, these missions must be ready to go by a given week (perhaps the week of the 27th or the week of the 3rd?) and during that week, ALL these missions will be played. In fact, they may very well be the only missions played if there's enough. What say you Folk ARPSians??

Not sure if I count as an old time, but one quote I associate with folkarps style missions is:
"Watch out, a helicopter coming from north."
"Nah, It's just a hind."

To be perfectly fair Bob, he DID shoot it down. Eventually. I mean, we were all dead or dying by then, but he DID shoot it down!

:D Think a bit more about specific themes or elements though. Here's a random example...

"The Challenge is thus, you must generate (and reasonably test) a new mission by insert-date-here and it must involve espionage, include at least one chihuahua, support a minimum of 10 players, support a maximum of 96 players, and must take place entirely within a single room at the ghost hotel."

But that's just an example... Someone throw down some real requirements! I think it'd be great fun seeing what folks would come up with. :)

Actually, no, you're not. This is a nice idea. Let me lay down a tough challenge. Make a coop mission that features:
  • The FIA platoon from the FA mission template, with attachments and technicals at your discretion
  • An attack on an enemy-held position
  • An enemy counter-attack or QRF (which can arrive during or after our attack)
  • A victory condition based on no enemies present within a given area OR the destruction of a specific target (e.g. parked tanks)
  • A failure condition based on our platoon taking 80% casualties
  • Up to 50 playable slots
  • A target play-through time of 45 minutes
  • A briefing that follows our guidelines
  • The character of Aziz - either in mission, or in the briefing
To make this mission you can only use:
  • The current FA mission template (based on F3)
  • Wolfenswan's WS FNC (which is included in the template)
  • Regular triggers, waypoints and synchronisations available in the editor
  • No gimmicks or custom scripts
Which means this should be easy to make from a technical standpoint - but requires you to have a really solid concept and some very well chosen terrain. However, if you can create a solid mission with these basic building blocks, I guarantee that good things will happen.

PS I'll join in too ;)

Great! :) Two questions though. First, what's the deadline? I know folks can always submit a mission whenever, but it'd be good to have a date to work against. Second, where is the Aziz character model? I don't think he's in the A3 editor.

Avoiding any manual scripting at all may be impossible for Yours Truly (it does limit some of the fun for me), but I'll do my best. 8-) Thanks for the requirements! I'm looking forward to seeing what FA'ers come up with.

Aziz is not a specific model - he's an idea. Use your imagination ;)

Resist the temptation.

I am heading home over the christmas, so I may not get a chance to play any of the missions. But I may just try and get one together for this during the week.

Two questions:

1) How strict is the 50 player cap? I mean, I can make it into a 50p mission without the normal attachments, but with them it'll be up to 64. I mean sure, I could keep only two to three attachments and make it something like 54 or 56, but point is, how much further can I go?

2) Where/how are we supposed to submit the missions? Just leave them on the test server and leave a note here?
