At this point I'd like to change my opinion about crosshairs.
I played some missions in the campaign and for whatever reason (I have really no idea why...) crosshairs and several other helpers were turned off. The fact that I didn't notice it for several missions in the campaign, made me change my mind. Therefore I'm now all for turning crosshairs off, as they are not really needed in A3. Besides that, screenshots look prettier without a crosshair in the center of the screen.

The socialist agrarian utopia is a democratic socialist republic
What's funny is that "sovereign, socialist, secular, democratic republic" is a quote from the Indian constitution.

I agree with Costno, crosshairs help a lot with judging if the line of fire is intercepting wonky rocks and walls inches from the gun. Especially with the statics and ARs it becomes far too easy to use the crosshairs to engage things at any reasonable distance.

I recently found about the ui element fade (an option under difficulty settings), the UI even at the smallest size takes up a good portion of the screen. Issue is this setting is affected by the serverside one(?), might be nice to have it enabled (having it fade that is).

Sorry bit of a topic derail, but relevant since this is a discussion about UI elements

Crosshairs do help check for obstructions, yet at the same time, with 1Tac I don't notice their absence all that much. I do find them useful for MG suppressing fire, though.
:D

I hate the crosshair, not the player. It has tricked you all and it is to blame, not you.

The most common ragged, tired defence for the crosshair is "But it lets me see when my firing line is obstructed."
If you're aiming you don't have a crosshair, you just have to judge. If you're not aiming then you're not shooting and don't need to see.
Herein lies the problem, people are shooting without aiming. This is sinful and unnecessary.

With crosshairs turned off you will aim, you have to in most situations, and you incidence of shooting terrain will go neither up nor down any appreciable amount.
Your gameplay experience will, however, and up.

The crosshair is insidious, it creeps in to your mind without you realising, making you shoot without aiming. Groping at that soft, comforting clutch that you don't need but have a childlike attachment to. But beneath that seemingly benign and matronly exterior, the crosshair is an old, old beast. Leftovers from a forgotten age.
There was a time we all needed the crosshair because we had nothing better, but those days are long past. Now that once helpful and nurturing crosshair has become a parasite leeching off of the innocent and naive. Some resisted, but in the end it became all too obvious that it must be laid to rest. Even noted grognard and all around 'old guard' celebrity dslyecxi finally pulled the trigger on the crosshair years ago once it became obvious it was a stranger in the corner, snivelling away to itself.

I will prove to all here, that even the good and pure among us are tainted by the crosshair menace without trying. OBSERVE, our beloved Costno taken in by sin against his will.

Exhibit A:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dT3qF7Qb9Us

7:55 -The disgusting crosshair kills an innocent AJAX at 300m. Granted full unobstructed vision and a perfect aimpoint AJAX doesn't stand a chance as he tries to find a charge for the objective.

11:57 - The gun opens fire on me using crosshairs to aim. Costno regains control momentarily and starts aiming before the crosshair reasserts control, robbing him of his rightful gameplay experience.

20:10 - Wow, just wow. This is the final insult. Costno doesn't need to do anything, the crosshair just does it for him.
BLAM BLAM BLAM and finished.
Why bother even playing if this is what we are, slave to the crosshair?

Closing statement:
We're better than this, end the crosshairs tyranny.
No one will notice after a week and we'll all be better for it.

Vague crosshair is drawn only when player is within 10 metres of an object (not even the ground).
Perfect solution as it keeps the "but in real life I would be able to tell whether my gun was going to hit that tree or not" while not giving a perfect aim point
