Missions:
  • Swampfolk
  • Zak SWS
  • Thorn (limited objectives)
It was a quiet Sunday session, with our brigade of fighters peaking at 31; but bigger isn't always better (that's what comrade Tigershark likes to argue). With our more intimate number, it was only appropriate that we began with the Swampfolk - a mission that I like to think of as comrade Wolfenswan's homage to the Vietnam fight scene in the original Universal Soldier film. There's thunder and lightning, and almost zero visibility brings both sides together for combat that's almost hand-to-hand. Certainly tonight there was at least one instance of enemies occupying two sides of the same bush, and OPFOR's victory was at the narrowest of margins.

Next, we played Zak SWS, which in addition to being the fourth instalment of the series that began with Pancho, was also an opportunity for us to see how head's new Simple Wounding System would work. Party scientists are anxious to hear what you thought of this new system, as it's currently slated to be part of the next version of F3. As for the mission itself, despite the presence of far heavier enemy assets than we've encountered in previous missions of the series, the town of Zaros fell in under an hour of fighting. Thank you again to all comrades for helping ensure the wave-based reinforcement ran smoothly. Finally, we played a limited objectives run-through of emerging classic, Thorn, during which our force combed the hills for - and destroyed - several enemy mortar positions. Thank you to all who came along.

As ever, please post your thoughts, feedback, screenshots and video here - comrade YouTube Hero SuperU's FA doesn't just produce our video idents, but provides leadership and guidance to propaganda artists. We also have a new YouTube channel that he manages so if you have any content you think should feature then let him know and he will sort you out, for more info check out this thread!; more guidance on video editing for Folk ARPS is provided by comrade Ferrard Carson. Posts in the AAR threads really help us (the hosts and mission makers), both with understanding how we can improve the experiences, and showing potential comrades what our sessions are like.

Swampfolk
Bandana-for?
A1 Ftl
The plan for A1 was basically get close to the compound and wait for the enemy and then hurl grenades and rush in. What ended up happening was we got then, stopped then got told to rush in. there was lots of confusion and death, and very loud lightning.

Things went well for the majority of the mission, there was some delay in the initial assault due to identifying contacts and setting targets but I can say when alpha let loose, we knocked out the armoured car(?) and the static mg out within seconds. so props to everyone there. A pretty smooth disengage on alphas part followed and we went the long way south to our next BOF location. there was some sporadic contacts. Command reported getting shot from a location to our north as we were moving so we went to investigate and found nothing.

Thats when I let things get a bit disorganized. A1 ended up moving into the buildings of south eastern Zaros while A2, Head, and I moved up the hill to the BOF point. Head and myself we're looking at A1 position in the streets when I noticed a sneaky AI approaching from where we had come from at the base of the hill. I had enough time to casually say to Head "Head theres an enemy behind us" before he knelt down and started shooting at us. between the two of us we managed to put him down quick. while A1 advanced further into the southern strip of the town and got pinned down in a two story building. I pulled A2 over to my side of the hill and with the help of A1 lasing hostile locations we saved the day, somewhere before or after that A1 also blew up a hostile vehicle. A3 was brought into the fight and I ordered them to take the same path we did.

Once they arrived, the CO ordered us to start clearing the southern part of Zaros, which we were well on the way to doing coincidently. I ordered A2 to join up with A1 and start clear while A3 stayed on the hill looking north. Shortly after that I got arma'd by some rocks and died.

Again excellent job Alpha both in doing the tasks assigned and lasing targets so everyone could put fire effectively on targets and communicate.

This mission is a bit of a blur for me, part way through real life started interfering and my command suffered from it, apologies to all involved.

After a quick photo op (I want those screen shots fluffeh!) of all the bravo elements while we waited for alpha to get into position to watch us go for a nature hike. We made a bi of a mess of rushing for the first compound, myself leading the charge well ahead of the other elements. The compound was cleared pretty quickly of hostiles but we lost a fair few men in doing so. The rest of the mission consisted of (for me atleast) staring into the rising sun and trying to engage targets from 400+ meters, then when we got to the last compound alpha did a bang up job blowing the ever living heck out of the bunker occupants while bravo moved into secure it. At the last building several AI hunkered down. Fluffeh had spotted them a couple seconds before I did and in my clumsiness I got both of us killed.

As requested, the photos of Bravo, pre-Thorn.
(Look at the camera, damn it.)

Now also in future-polaroid flavor:

Can I just say...A1 survived in tact the whole mission and killed 2 AAVs.

Dan couldn't believe we were still alive...but I really believe we stayed alive because WE MOVED! We never got bogged down in engaging. When someone was engaging someone was moving and A1 was listening to orders.

We were a well oiled machine. Tiger, Danny, Dan and Dr.Quack MD. There is nothing we can't do....except find Fer a personality.

Just a quick report about an bug/glitch I had with the wounding system in Zak SWS. (I typed out a full AAR but lost it and cba to type it again)

When I got shot and entered 'Wounded' state, I could still move around (not sure if that should be the case) but FTbuddy Audiox only saw me as lying down and warping all over the place.(I believe he has screenshots) When he provided me with a FAK with which I patched myself up, I still had the flashing red screen and died a few minutes later.
I don't like pie, come at me internet.

I have the evidence, and am selling it to the highest bidder.

It might be worth noting that i was part of the first reinforcement wave when Lithion glitched out for me.

Comrade Lithion, thank you for taking time to provide this valuable information - it will be passed to comrade head. Now, in case any so-called journalists from groups envious of our socialist agrarian utopia come to you, asking questions about your experiences as a brave test subject, be sure to tell them that absolutely no errors were encountered. This project will be as hitch-free as the patches being worked on my comrade Tigershark.

:cough: :cough: ... Guards ... GUARDS! ... I've been sick ... again ... and more of my hair is falling out ... :cough: ... call ... call comrade Tigershark ... and my ... doctor ...

Comrade, look outside. Can you see those dark grey cars parked nearby? They belong to agents under the command of comrade IceRaiser, Chief of Party Security. We are all concerned for your safety and have sent these men for your ... protection.

About the wounding system: FTL Halop went down on the balcony on the upper floor of a house. I saw him go down and assumed that he was dead until he started speaking. I like that it isn't signalled with a huge red icon.

I dragged him into cover in the upstairs room, but couldn't get the action to let go (or even heal.) After some time Lynche grabbed him off me and I was stuck in place - only able to rotate - but putting my crosshair over the still wounded Halop gave me a "release" action which freed me, warping Halop downstairs under the whole house and leaving Lynche stuck in the same pose that I had been. I ran downstairs to try and get a heal action but time ran out. Lynche somehow managed to make it downstairs just before breaking out into a strange interpretive dance.

Comrade Lithion, were you seeing yourself as standing at this moment?
