FA Cold War CDLC sessions

Post by NikkoJT »

Update, June 2021: This thread, and FA Special Sessions, now include elements of the CSLA: Iron Curtain CDLC, as well as Global Mobilization. See below for full information.

Greetings, comrades!

Do you remember back in 1983 when the socialist agrarian revolution was in full swing? When the Party's T-55s were this close to rolling across the West German border? When the Party's helicopters spread the good word all across the world? Ah, those were the days. Anyway, we're doing an Arma 3 Global Mobilization special event.

What?
Some of you like the Global Mobilization CDLC for Arma 3. It has high-quality content in a popular setting and is receiving continued support and development, making it an excellent candidate for FA use.
This will not replace a regular session; it is an extra activity. However, we'll be working as if it's a regular session, with original FA missions and the same hosts and times you're used to.

When?
It'll be at the regular session time (19:20 GMT). It will be on the 18th of September.

How?
You will need, at a bare minimum, the free GM compatibility data and the free CSLA compatibility data (for missions using GM assets on vanilla maps). The best way to attend, however, is with the full GM CDLC and CSLA CDLC, which allow access to the Weferlingen and Gabreta terrains and remove DLC restrictions on vehicles and items.
The event will be held on an FA server using the FA Teamspeak, as usual.

Are we moving to full GM adoption, like Contact?
No. GM and other CDLCs will not be required at main sessions, since they are not included in the base game like previous DLCs. However, this Cold War CDLC session will continue to happen semi-regularly as an additional session.

Also, come to regular sessions. The Party is watching.

That's all for now, comrades. We hope to see you on the battlefield. Don't forget your battle rifle and aviators.

Server information
The event will be held on the FA Global Mobilisation server.
Address: server.folkarps.com
Port: 2762
P/W: freedom
Server browser search: "Folk ARPS Global Mobilization"
Required mods: Global Mobilization Creator DLC, CSLA: Iron Curtain Creator DLC or Compatibility Patch
Optional mods: standard FA optional mods, listed in this forum post.
Note: the GM Compatability Data Workshop addon will allow you to connect and see GM assets in the presession mission. However, it's likely that we will play some missions set on the Weferlingen terrain, for which the full GM CDLC is required.
Note: the CSLA Compatibility Data Workshop addon is required for this session, you will need it to connect. You can use the full CSLA DLC instead. We will probably not be running missions on the CSLA map unless everyone brings the full DLC.

Teamspeak
Standard FA Teamspeak.
server.folkarps.com:9988 (password: freedom)
Please set up push-to-talk in Teamspeak.

Time and date
Saturday, September 18 2021
Session will begin at 19:20-19:30 GMT. It is recommended to arrive at least a few minutes early to allow for connection times and troubleshooting. A presession sandbox mission will be available starting around 19:00 GMT.

New to FA sessions?
Don't forget to join our Discord where we will happily answer any questions.

Here's a basic rundown:
Each session consists of 3-5 missions running between 20 minutes to an hour each. Each mission has a slotting phase, briefing phase, and mission phase. During slotting, the host will call slots, and if you feel qualified, you can take them. Don't switch slots without asking, and try to keep chatter to text chat during the slotting and briefing phases. During briefing, whoever slotted as CO will plan the mission and brief their team leaders. Then we play the mission.

In a mission, we use Teamspeak for communications between groups (so keep it clear unless you're a leader) and in-game Group VON for communications within groups.

During a mission, if you die, move up to the Limbo channel in Teamspeak and await either reslotting or the next mission. Listen to your team leader and behave sensibly, and hopefully you won't have to do this.

At FA sessions we try to ensure a culture of friendliness and respect. Not "sir yes sir" levels of respect - we're here to have fun, not replicate a real military unit - but being an ass to people won't be permitted, nor will any expression of bigotry.

Our Discord includes a set of informational channels under the TTP_FA heading which provide more detailed insight into mission procedures. Put simply: work as a team. Lone-wolfing won't make you popular.

As previously mentioned, our Discord is open for questions and if you are confused, you can ask people in your team for clarification.

See you soon, comrades!
