Newbie questions

Hiya,

Whilst I've had Arma3 for sometime I've only really got back to playing it so I consider myself pretty new to the game. Already I can see that playing in an organised group online like yours is the way to go, however I wonder if you could help answer some questions first?

I need to squeeze my game time around family commitments, as such;
  1. I may not be able to make the start times, is it possible to join the next session when it starts or is the setup locked from the first session?
  2. I may need to attend to restless toddlers, how do/can you cope with AFKs?
Cheers,
Oyst

Hey Oyst.

Wait, there's a single player portion?! :P

1. Most missions last for 20-40 minutes. After that we start a new one, everybody can join on a mission per mission basis throughout the evening, so nothing to worry about there.

2. Don't worry about it. If you're in a fireteam and you need to save a two-year-old from electrocuting himself or something that's quite all right. Though if you know it might be an issue over the course of a mission you might want to avoid potentially mission-critical assets (Anti-tank slots, mostly) and command positions for that mission.

This community was formed by time-starved people with kids, so don't worry about a thing!

Thanks AudioX,

Weekends can be awkward but I'll try and make it for Sunday, otherwise Tuesdays are good.

I've yet to get the expansion pack, are the maps selected at the time or do you generally know ahead?

I notice your location says Norway, my brother moved over there, you probably know him :P

Cheers,
Jon

Hi Oyst,

While the maps we will be playing aren't generally known ahead of time, we try to ensure that the first mission played isn't on Tanoa (the island included with the Apex DLC; the only such locked island). Other than that it can be a bit of a grabbag, but its not usual to have Tanoa missions back-to-back. We also try to announce on Discord when we start slotting for a new mission so people who haven't joined yet or had to sit out due to Tanoa know when to rejoin. Other than that, the other DLCs are only needed if you are taking some specialist slots (for example, flying one of the jets from the Jets DLC) and to remove the "Buy the DLC" nag screen when you are using a piece of equipment (for example, a uniform) from one of the DLCs.

Speaking of Discord, we have a Discord server where we just sort of hang out. You're welcome to join, and feel free to ask more questions there if you want a quicker response. But also feel free to continue asking here as well.

Heyo.
How did it work out yesterday?
I forgot who you were in the heat of the moment, so sorry for being annoy off the ball. Also we were doing some testing at the time so there was a lot going on at once. Hope to see you around again.

Hi AudioX,

Thanks for your help the other day.

I must admit I was caught out by how quickly I was setup and placed into the game, as I was hoping to take some more time to setup keys, headset mic, etc!

There should a warning on that Swifty quick-login button! ;)

I had issues with some USB driver setup so only managed to make 2 rounds. The first of which I got separated from the group for most of it, and the second one was similar except I was shot in that one. I'll try not to be quite so useless next time.

Thanks to Lexar for that Discord info, I wondered where everyone was since these forums seem very quiet.

I'll try and join in again today.

Cheers,
Jon
